Educational studies at Saint Martin;s is a non-certification program for individuals interested in gaining knowledge, skills and pedagogy in education theory and application. The program offers five areas of focus: Community education; Early childhood education; Foundation studies in education and culture; Health and fitness; STEM (science, technology, engineering, math).

An education minor allows students to explore the educational field as a compliment to their intended professions. With a background in any one of our four minors, a student’s opportunity for engagement as a non-professional educator is enhanced.

If you dream of sharpening and developing the minds of future leaders in the classroom, secondary ed may be the best major for you. Our secondary education program offers students a path to teaching at the middle/high school level, typically grades four through 12, to acquire a teaching certificate from the state of Washington.

The special education program at Saint Martin;s provides graduates with the education and training to work in settings such as an inclusionary classroom, a resource room, or a self-contained special education class. Completion of required courses for the teaching major will lead to an institutional recommendation that the student be endorsed in special education by the state of Washington.

SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½â€™s University’s inaugural doctoral program is designed to empower the next generation of scholars, researchers and practitioners to lead and innovate in the field of leadership studies. This program addresses the critical need for effective leadership in an ever-evolving world by providing advanced knowledge and research opportunities. Please note: F1 and J1 international students are not eligible for the Ph.D. program. The application portal opens on October 1st each year, with application reviews beginning February 1st of the following year. Interviews are conducted in February, with the selected cohort starting their classes in May.

Saint Martin;s University's Master in Teaching (MIT) program provides the opportunity to simultaneously earn your teacher certification and a master's degree. We offer endorsements in physical education and health, special education, elementary education, and secondary-level content areas such as biology, chemistry, math, history/social studies, English and language arts, and music. Employees in partner districts may also earn their MIT as part of our Grow-Your-Own program, which helps current paraeducators earn their teaching certificate, special education endorsement, and master’s degree all while maintaining their district employment.

The MED program offers specialization strands in special education, English language learners (ELL), and K-12 administration.

The Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs (MED-HESA) at Saint Martin;s brings our Benedictine values-based approach to student services/student affairs work on college and university campuses. The post-baccalaureate certification-only pathway at Saint Martin;s University provides the opportunity to earn Washington State teacher certification without earning an additional degree. This option is ideal for individuals who already hold both bachelor's and master's degrees.

The school administration program is designed to meet requirements for certification as a school administrator (principal or program administrator).

The French program combines the study of French language, French-speaking cultures, cinema, and literature. The French Language minor includes coursework and offers language-acquisition experiences that enable students to become proficient in French in the areas of speaking, oral comprehension, reading, and writing. All courses for the minor are conducted in French.

The Interdisciplinary Studies major teaches the approaches, lexicons, and methodologies of discrete disciplines. The Japanese studies minor is intended to broaden a student's knowledge of Japan and the country's language and culture. It’s also fun to learn and use Japanese!

Philosophy consists of a self-reflective, speculative search for the truth. Philosophy as a discipline surveys the history of human thought and studies the deepest concerns of human existence. It examines the intellectual heritage of the West in its historical roots and developments, but also addresses the central problems of the tradition in a reflective and systematic fashion, thereby giving the student a deeper insight into a significant aspect of his or her cultural heritage.

The theatre arts program at Saint Martin;s University is designed to incorporate the best of SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½â€™s liberal arts tradition with hands-on, professional-quality theatrical experience. The Theology and Religious Studies Department is rooted at the heart of SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½â€™s identity as a Catholic and Benedictine University and thus proudly and hospitably serves our diverse community of students. Our courses invite students to engage in questions posed since ancient times by various religions, and of Catholic Christianity in particular, such as the ultimate meaning of human existence in relation to God and the establishment of an ethical society. The Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.), offered in partnership with the Archdiocese of Seattle, is designed for persons interested in the important questions of the identity of God, the human person and God’s relationship to us as individuals, as an ecclesial community and as a human family. This program educates persons for lay ecclesial ministry, education or personal enrichment.

To emphasize the significance of an interdisciplinary understanding of gender and identity, students are required to take elective courses in at least two academic departments outside of gender and identity studies.

The global studies program is designed for students who are interested in studying international problems from an interdisciplinary perspective.
